ARIZONA AND MARIJUANA

Minor note: I am a paid circulator to get signatures on a petition to legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona.

A Rocky Mountain poll conducted between April 29th and May 10th revealed that 53% of adult heads of households approved legalizing marijuana for personal use.  Of the 701 people polled, only 457 were registered voters, so this may not necessarily bode well fori the initiative.  The results for voters have a 4.7% margin of error.

I was intrigued by this result:
Strongest support for legalizing possession is found in rural Arizona (58%) and in Maricopa County (53%) The public in Pima County also favors such legalization but by a lower ratio of 47 to 43 percent.

In Arizona, we generally consider Maricopa to be more conservative than Pima and in rural areas, a few of my acquaintances have reported extreme conservatism. I initially thought that the libertarians in Maricopa may account for the difference in support but Maricopa County registration figures show that libertarians don't have the numbers to account for the difference between counties:
