Sun News Network went off the air at 5 a.m. ET Friday after failing to find a new owner.

Sun Media Corp. issued a statement saying it spent months unsuccessfully trying to find a buyer, but financial losses meant it could not continue to operate.

The network began broadcasting in April 2011, launching a right-of-centre programming schedule, but it has had a constant challenge attracting viewers.

Data released as part of that application showed that while the network was available to 5.1 million households, it was only attracting, on average, 8,000 viewers at any given time.

FIRED FOR BEING A LIBERAL

Diane Douglas is Arizona's State School Superintendent and many feel she is unqualified for that position, so much so that some have even started organizing a recall petitionShe just fired 2 employees of the State Board of Education for being liberals!  This move was overturned by Gov. Ducey and Douglas wrote the following in response to being overruled:
“Governor Ducey has refused to take calls or meetings with me personally since his swearing in,” Douglas continued. “Clearly he has established a shadow faction of charter school operators and former state Superintendents who support Common Core and moving funds from traditional public schools to charter schools. “It is no surprise that his office supports retaining two liberal staff who have publicly stated they will block all efforts to repeal or change Common Core and backs the newly elected President of the Board of Education who is a charter school operator and stands to profit from the Governor’s policy of pushing through AzMerit to lower school scores so that more students can be removed to charter schools,”

DAVID WEIGEL DISAPPOINTS ME

He tries to paper over the GOP's pandering to the Fundies by denouncing "science gotchas" when the real issue is closer to civilization versus ignorant buffoons.

CHURCHY IS ALIVE & ALL TOO WELL

The influence of the fundies on GOP politicians isn't as well-known as it as during the heyday of Falwell but it's still very strong.  Despite serious financial difficulties in their own states, governors Jindal and Brownback keep talking about sex issues only fundies care about.

MONEY DOES MAKE THE POLITICAL WORLD GO 'ROUND

What seems to be behind the David Brock resignation from Priorities USA Action (also here and here): Some people want a slice of the money-raising pie and others don't want them to get a slice.

THE CRUSADES AND...

I've heard and read some of the conservative hysteria about Pres. Obama's remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast and not one mentioned the Spanish Inquisition.  I assume and hope that's because even they won't go so far as to justify the latter.  Digby has more.

UPDATE:  I was wrong...
