Atrios notes that Dana Bash of CNN stated that the Dems will have trouble thwarting the efforts of an unpopular president to continue an unpopular war and that seems to be the MSM's pro-GOP meme. Listening to radio news, I've mostly heard "drawdown 30,000 troops" and to someone who hasn't been paying much attention, it sounds like Fredo is winding down the war when in fact it's just more of the same.

This morning, about 10 hours ago, I heard Slots Bennett almost gloat that the Democrats were "in a box" because they don't have the votes to force a withdrawal but a large part of their base wants withdrawal. I wrote that down at the time and as I type this, just 23 minutes ago this AP piece showed up on Yahoo News:

Reid: Iraq drawdown plan unacceptable
By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer

The Democrats, meanwhile, have rallied against the plan. But they find themselves in a box — lacking the votes to pass legislation ordering troops home by spring but tied to a support base that wants nothing less.

I don't think the AP is in the tank for Slots Bennett but this report does seem to fit in very well with the war whores memes.
