"PROMOTING DEMOCRACY AROUND THE WORLD"

The Bush regime hypocrisy continues. Pres. Fredo will attend the Beijing Olympics despite the crackdown on Tibet. This is in marked contrast to Pres. Carter's response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan - Carter called for the boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. All 3 Presidential candidates have spoken out against the crackdown and Speaker Pelosi issued a firm statement:

Pelosi Denounces China's Tibet Crackdown

DHARMSALA, India (AP) — House speaker Nancy Pelosi called on the world Friday to denounce China's crackdown of anti-government protests in Tibet, calling the crisis "a challenge to the conscience of the world."

Pelosi, one of the fiercest Congressional critics of China, was greeted by cheering Tibetans as she arrived to meet the Dalai Lama. She is the first major official to visit the leader of Tibet's exile community since peaceful protests turned violent last week in the Chinese-ruled region.

"If freedom loving people throughout the world do not speak out against China's oppression in China and Tibet, we have lost all moral authority to speak on behalf of human rights anywhere in the world," Pelosi said before a crowd of thousands of Tibetans, including monks and schoolchildren.

"The situation in Tibet is a challenge to the conscience of the world," she said.

Let's not forget that freedom is one of Fredo's rationales for the Fiasco in Iraq:
So we're helping the people of Iraq establish a democracy in the heart of the Middle East. A free Iraq will fight terrorists instead of harboring them. A free Iraq will be an example for others of the power of liberty to change the societies and to displace despair with hope. By spreading the hope of liberty in the Middle East, we will help free societies take root -- and when they do, freedom will yield the peace that we all desire.
