Ok, we've heard about the $8.8 billion, handed out in stacks of 100s, that can't be adequatetly accounted for in Iraq. We were reminded many times of the gift that kept on giving during the presidential campaign: "I voted for it before I voted against it." Now I hear about a local budget crunch:

Flying hours are being cut, building projects shelved and, in a move even cash-strapped civilians can relate to, the base has switched to one-ply toilet paper - one of many money-saving measures in a new wave of frugality ordered by Air Force headquarters.
The local cost-cutting is part of a larger effort to address a service-wide budget shortfall of $3.7 billion this year.
D-M's share - the amount the Tucson base was told to cut to help deal with the problem - worked out to $2.8 million, base officials said.
