President Bush delivered a 25-minute speech in Tucson this afternoon, pledging that he will not sign any immigration plan that includes amnesty for illegal immigrants.
After the plane taxied to a stop, with the Santa Rita Mountains as a backdrop, President Bush stepped off shortly after 2:15 p.m., waving and walking down the stairs alone.
Greeting him on the tarmac were Sens. McCain and Jon Kyl and Gov. Janet Napolitano, among others.
After shaking their hands, the president presented an award to police volunteer Al Agellon of Sahuarita, who smiled broadly.
From there, the motorcade swept off to a D-M building where the president was to be briefed by border officials.
He spoke to an audience of invited dignitaries in a hangar at the base, including Republican officials, two local Teachers of the Year and some of their students.
