PRES. FREDO AS HISTORIAN

I got this from Atrios who got it from someone else.

BUSH: You know, I just recently came off a trip to the Far East. By the way, representing the United States of America around the world is one of the great experiences of the presidency. And it struck me that I was in a region of the world where there -- where wars had started.

Oops, I forgot this earlier gem of historical knowledge:

"My trip to Asia begins here in Japan for an important reason. It begins here because for a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times. From that alliance has come an era of peace in the Pacific."

BUSH, Remarks to the Diet, Tokyo, Japan, Feb. 18, 2002
