I wrote below about the recent moves by Dobson's forces to make AZ a theocratic state by letting college students opt out of reading books they find objectionable. Today, there was some good news for the forces of The Enlightenment, Western Civilization and the New York Yankees:
The book bill was defeated in the state senate, 17-12.
Book lists remain required, offensive or not

On a 17-12 vote, lawmakers rejected legislation which would have required state-run universities and community college to offer students an alternative to books, movies and other course requirements.
The vote occurred even after Sen. Thayer Verschoor, R-Mesa, agreed to curb the scope of the measure.
As originally crafted, SB 1331 would have allowed students to say that materials are personally offensive or conflict with their beliefs or practices in sex, morality or religion. Verschoor instead offered an alternative which would have applied solely to materials that depict or describe "sexual activity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement, sadomasochistic abuse or nudity in a patently offensive way."
"Patently offensive to whom?" questioned Sen. Carolyn Allen, R-Scottsdale.
