These voters make up about 11 percent of Americans over age 18 and 13 percent of registered voters. They are almost all Republican, mostly women, and substantially more conservative than the rest of the population on issues such as gay marriage.
These voters say that, despite some disagreements with the president's policies, it is their shared values -- and shared faith -- that keeps them Bush loyalists.
2004 ELECTION: Bush 86 percent, Kerry 4 percent.
Although they think corporations make too much profit, that is counter-balanced by their belief that poor people have it easy today:
* Poor people today have it easy because they can get government benefits without doing anything in return:
General Population -- 34 percent
Social Conservatives -- 68 percent
* Business corporations make too much profit:
General Population -- 54 percent
Social Conservatives -- 66 percent
