Newt Gingrich delivered a speech in South Dakota and had a Q&A session afterwards. Here's the key part from the Sioux Falls Argus Leader:
VERMILLION - Newt Gingrich, the former Republican Speaker of the House, told students and faculty at the University of South Dakota Monday that the United States should pull out of Iraq and leave a small force there, just as it did post-war in Korea and Germany. "It was an enormous mistake for us to try to occupy that country after June of 2003," Gingrich said during a question-and-answer session at the school. "We have to pull back, and we have to recognize it."
Shammity didn't believe Newt said that and was going to have him on. I missed that but I did catch Newt on John Gibson's show and Newt's "retraction" wasn't one. He told Gibson that we should never have set up the CPA to run things. Instead, we should've turned it over to the locals. Newt also said that the paper was going to provide more context but as I write this, the article is unchanged and I couldn't find a corrections column.
