NEXT UP, THE CHINA THREAT

Over a year ago I noted that Slots Bennett and Bill Geertz were trying to drum up a war/scare fever about China's growing military. Today in the WaPo, Dan Blumenthal, a hack from AEI, starts the drumbeat again. While not explicitly urging a 1,000 ship Pacific fleet, he thinks it's time to get scared:

A policy seeking to shape China into a responsible global actor works only if you are willing to recognize when it is not working. That time may be fast approaching.

No doubt there are legitimate concerns about the future size and direction of China's military and foreign policy but it's time to be cynical about anyone from the Noise Machine prattling on about how we need to increase the Pentagon's budget.
