Occasionally, one of the AM radio gasbags will read a letter, purportedly from a soldier in Iraq. I usually think that the letters are fake but after reading this one from Stars & Stripes, I'm not so sure:
Letters to the Editor for Tuesday, November 28, 2006
The election is over and the American people have spoken. Voters chose defeat over victory. They chose to be a country of quitters instead of winners. They chose the party of “Cut and Run” to run Congress.
Now the Democrats are going to make everything better. But don’t forget about that other bit of baggage that comes along with liberal Democrats — socialism! Thanks to voters, we can now look forward to higher taxes, increased regulation, a growth in the size of government, gun control, open borders, amnesty for illegal aliens, abortion on demand, legalized gay marriage, more social welfare, activist left-wing judges that legislate from the bench, defense cuts, more cooperation with the dictators that run the United Nations, appeasement toward Iran and North Korea, failure of an infant democracy in Iraq, an “al-Qaida bill of rights” to include a ban on both foreign surveillance and interrogation of terrorist prisoners, Hillary Clinton’s beloved nationalized health-care system, and many more left-wing zingers. You asked for it, America, now you’ve got it!
But did voters notice that something was missing from the election aftermath? Where were all of the allegations of voter fraud and demands for recounts that we always see whenever Republicans win? Did everything work perfectly on Election Day? Of course it did. The Democrats and their willing accomplices in the mainstream media won. There were no Election Day anomalies, right?
The Dems quickly put forth a proposal that we cut and run from Iraq within four to six months. Well, if our strategy is no longer victory, and it’s now defeat, then why not quit and get out of Iraq now? Why wait six months to retreat? Let’s stick our tail between our legs, give up and go home right away! I, for one, would love to be home by Christmas.
