DAVID NEIWERT (ORCINUS)

In 2005, he wrote the following:

The chief, overarching argument of the conservative movement, in essence, has been that liberals are the sole and primary cause of everything that is wrong both with America and with the world at large.

I believed Neiwert at the time I read that, and after listening to talk radio and reading about the insanity that regularly takes place on FAUX News over the next two years, I am convinced that he has hit about a, perhaps the, core belief of American conservatives. Crooks & Liars has a clip of Newt Gingrich BLAMING LIBERALS AND LIBERALISM for the VA Tech tragedy. This isn't new for Gingrich. In 1999 he blamed liberals for the Columbine tragedy ^1,2:

NEWT GINGRICH, FORMER HOUSE SPEAKER: ... the elite media, the liberal academic elite, the liberal political elite, I accuse you in Littleton and I accuse you in Kosovo of being afraid to talk about the mess you have made.

Mr. GINGRICH: The very people who were opposed to Vietnam are now bringing us a European Vietnam! And they have learned nothing from the Vietnam campaign.

GINGRICH: We have had a 35-year experiment in a unionized, bureaucratic, credentialed, secular assault on the core values of this country, and we should not be surprised that eventually they yield bad fruit because they are bad seeds.

Mr. GINGRICH: For 35 years, God has been driven out of the classroom and we have seen the result in a secular, atheistic system in which God is not allowed to exist. But we have been given a wake-up call that the experiment in secular liberalism has failed.

GINGRICH: We have to have substantial change in order to get away from a society in which a mother in Florida was arrested for her daughter being killed by her husband, in which somebody was arrest -- a mother in the Southland is being arrested for killing her two children. Now, I think you're more likely to get very deep changes by voting Republican by definition. They're not the people who have been in power for 40 years.

From the NBC transcript of the time, Lisa Meyers notes "This isn't the first time Gingrich blamed failed liberalism for a tragedy. Five years ago he made similar remarks when a mother drowned her two children. "
