A DRAWBACK TO THE ALL-VOLUNTEER ARMY

Today I heard a caller to Insannity's show thank Sean profusely for his efforts on the air. The caller was an 18 year old male who claimed he had been accepted at West Point and that fact led me to recall an article I came across a number of years ago about a drawback of an all-volunteer force: that force will likely be much more conservative than the general public. The graph below of the regional sources of recruits for the year 1999 gives a rough indication that this has indeed happened if one assumes that the South is more conservative than the rest of the country. Even allowing for his youth, the caller to Insannity's show stikes me as unfit to be an officer because of his ideological narrowness.
