DOESN'T SOUND SAFE TO ME

Just a few hours after I learned through Charles Hanley of the AP that there have been at least 80 mortar and rocket attacks on the Green Zone since March, Reuters files the report below. One has to ask if we can't even protect the Green Zone, how can we protect all of Baghdad?

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A barrage of mortar bombs hit Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone on Thursday and several plumes of smoke could be seen rising near buildings housing the Iraqi parliament and government offices, Reuters reporters said.

At least seven mortar rounds could be heard slamming into the Green Zone, which houses many Iraqi government ministries as well as the U.S., British and other Western embassies.

The Green Zone, on the west side of the Tigris, is Baghdad's most secure area but has been a frequent target for rockets and mortar bombs fired by militants. The strikes have lately become more frequent and more accurate.
