THE "INEVITABLE" DRAWDOWN

I've written several times that a troop drawdown was inevitable and would most likely begin at the start of 2007. Instead, we got The Surge. Kevin Drum of Political Animal also picked up on the same reports:
I've been hearing for at least the past couple of years that the military is close to the breaking point in Iraq, and yet that breaking point never seems to happen.

Now, there are a couple of possible explanations for this: (1) All of the reports could have been wrong or (2) We aren't being told how badly things are for the deployed troops. I opt for the latter because it is consistent with how both the military and the criminal Bush regime function.

UPDATE:

Commenter IMU at Political Animal tipped me off to this article by Kagro X at Daily Kos. Kagro notes that happy talk from military officials today, a year ago and 2 years ago claimed that a drawdown was possible in the near future.
