BEFORE THE "ALL AL QAEDA, ALL THE TIME" MEME

Secretary Chertoff's latest remarks about his "gut feeling" that Al Qaeda would attack in the U.S. some time this summer is just part of the meme that the criminal Bush administration has been pushing in order to gain support for the Fiasco in Iraq. Before Chertoff shared his views with the Chicago Tribune, he never mentioned a looming threat to the U.S. He DID however tell the Germans that there was a growing threat to EUROPE, according to this UPI report:

HEADLINE: U.S. sources warn Europe of terror plots
DATELINE: BERLIN, June 26
BODY: The United States believes Europe is under an increased terror threat. A German news magazine said in its latest issue the United States has warned Germany, in a series of private meetings over recent months, of growing terror threats in Europe. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble that al-Qaida had regained great strength because of the instability in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan, according to Der Spiegel. The magazine also cites a classified document the U.S. Embassy in Berlin sent to its German intelligence partners. The document warns of a high likelihood that terror attacks have been planned in several European countries, including Germany. The study said al-Qaida was "logistically and financially" very strong and compared the current situation in Europe to that of the time before the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. German intelligence services share the U.S. view and are increasingly concerned about a number of German nationals of Pakistani and Lebanese descent who are believed to have received training in terror camps in Pakistan. Two men from Germany were arrested earlier this month by Pakistani authorities and are currently being held in Islamabad, the news magazine said.
