When I heard this story, I recalled something similar that happened a long time ago:

Hammering politicians of both major parties, [Hunter] Thompson called Richard Nixon and Hubert Humphrey "two bastards who told more lies than we could if we worked at it for $100,000 a week." He blasted two Vietnam War secretaries of state, Dean Rusk and Henry Kissinger, saying of Rusk, "He's got blood on his hands" and calling Kissinger "beyond a degenerate. He's depraved in a way genetic scientists are trying to follow."
