Well, I don’t know what true conservatism is...
I don't either and that's why I read some F. A. Hayek in the hope that I would learn what an intellectually honest conservative was like. Instead, I learned that Hayek thought so little of conservatives, especially the American variety, that he refused to call himself one. I read a good history of the modern (post-war) conservative movement in America and I'm still looking for someone I can consider to be an honest conservative intellectual. I posted the principles of both Kirk and Weaver and I can detect the religious element in both but in each case that seems to be taking the easy way out of our common moral problems.
Krugman takes an anthropological approach and looks at what conservatives have done and said over the post-war years and it isn't pretty. One can easily come to the conclusion that conservatives are in fact immoral.
