Charles Krauthammer indulges in fantasies about Iraq while accusing others of being in denial about how good things are going. He ignorantly asserts that reconciliation is going on at the tribal and local levels, a glaring misapprehension of the harsh realities of sectarianism in Iraq.
Even more preposterous, he claims the the goal of federalism is being fully me by the Kurds but in fact here he is confusing independence with federalism. A little over a month ago, the head of the peshmerga openly declared that they don't take orders from Baghdad. Can you imagine a U.S. governor saying the same thing about his state's national guard?
