UPDATE II: Lott may have resigned now so he doesn't have to wait 2 years before becoming a lobbyist.

Sen. Trent Lott announced today that he will resign his seat, effective by January 1st. Now, he says:

"It's time for us to do something else," Lott said, speaking for himself and his wife Tricia at a news conference. ... "There are no problems. I feel fine," Lott said.

There's some speculation that Lott had some sexual enocunters with a male escort, so far unproven. John at AMERICAblog is going to wait for more evidence.
