The Pima County Board of Supervisors adopted new growth policies Tuesday that would raise impact fees to around $15,000 on new houses on the Southwest Side.
The Southwest Infrastructure Plan examined the infrastructure needs of a 70-square- mile area that has been targeted for growth under the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan. Officials estimated the area will require $885 million in new infrastructure to serve the needs of an expected 120,000 new residents over the next 45 years.
The plan estimates a cost of $25,000 per new home to cover those costs, but state law limits the ability of the county to collect impact fees for some costs.
Current transportation impact fees are roughly $4,400, and County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry said that number likely will rise to $15,000. Also, the county will be looking to developers to pay for more road costs as part of the development and include public amenities like parks in their projects.
Second, my congressman, Raul Grijalva, has signed on to Dennis Kucinich's impeachment drive:

Grijalva, a co-sponsor, said the impeachment bill has a "limited chance" at best of gaining the support it needs. But he signed on because of what he sees as major abuses by the Bush- Cheney administration.
"At least for me personally, it's more of a statement than anything else," said Grijalva, who represents Southwestern Arizona. "There has got to be some accountability."
Grijalva is one of 23 Democrats who have signed on to the bill, bucking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has long said impeachment is "off the table."
