DEMS CAVE AGAIN (NOT REALLY NEWS :-)

Amnesty for people who came here for a better life isn't acceptable but complete immunity for telcoms who broke the law is just fine with not only the GOP and sadly, too many Senate Democrats.

Senate Rejects Secret Court Measure

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate on Thursday rejected an attempt to expand a secret court's oversight of government eavesdropping, sticking instead with a surveillance bill favored by the White House.

The bill, which failed 60-36, would have strengthened the oversight powers of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. It would have given the court the authority to monitor and enforce how the government protects the identities of innocent Americans whose communications may be inadvertently collected.

Glenn Greenwald has an accurate summary of how the Democrats have failed to defend the Constitution and promote the general welfare:

Democrats have failed repeatedly to end or even limit one of the most unpopular wars in American history. They have failed to restore habeas corpus. They have failed to fulfill their promise of "fixing" the hastily-passed Protect America Act. They even failed to provide children's health insurance even though their entire party and much of the GOP favored it.

For those of us who have spent time standing up for Democrats, you have to ask the question "When are the Democrats going to stand up for us?"
