OBAMA & WRIGHT

I am sympathetic to the implausibility argument that some have made about Obama's denial of knowledge about the contents of Pastor Wright's inflammatory sermons. Punditarian at The Astute Bloggers provides a good example of this argument. In particular, he notes that the NY Times wrote over a year ago that Obama was aware that Wright was controversial:

Disinvitation by Obama Is Criticized

CHICAGO, March 5 — The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., senior pastor of the popular Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago and spiritual mentor to Senator Barack Obama, thought he knew what he would be doing on Feb. 10, the day of Senator Obama’s presidential announcement.

Mr. Wright said Mr. Obama called him the night before the Feb. 10 announcement and rescinded the invitation to give the invocation.

“Senator Obama is proud of his pastor and his church, but because of the type of attention it was receiving on blogs and conservative talk shows, he decided to avoid having statements and beliefs being used out of context and forcing the entire church to defend itself,” Mr. Burton said.

The conspoiracy theory about drugging the black communtiy is a bit overwrought but 9/11 as blowback for anti-Islamic and pro-Israeli policy has been echoed by Nader, Ron Paul, and Michael Scheuer, to name a few.
John Toland and Stinnet are among the mainstream historians who give some credence to the Pearl Harbor "revisionist" argument.

Ken,

Many others have also said that our overly pro-Israel policies were also cause of resentment.
