The most crucial is that the U.S. can no longer be defeated militarily in Iraq, which could not be said a year ago.
THAT was never the issue, at least as far as our military leaders were concerned. They have consistently stated that we cannot be militarily defeated in Iraq. They have enphasized that the military alone cannot win and we need a political solution and even Fredo agreed with that.
I do have to give them some credit for being attuned to reality because unlike some other wingnuts, they realize the Iraqi security forces aren't worth much:
And as we've learned in the last two weeks, Iraq Security Forces aren't able by themselves to impose a monopoly of force on Basra and the Shiite South.

WSJ dissembling. If a draw is a win in guerrila warfare, America has been defeated in Iraq. Which does not mean America is vulnerable to invasion by any force in Iraq then or now. Of course Tony Blair said Iraq could attack the UK with WMDs in 45 minutes.
