More and more, it looks like McCain doesn't have the mental capacity to be President. Jonathan Martin at Drudgico finds that he can't even correctly recall parts of a big speech he made:
"The media often overlooked how compassionately she spoke to the concerns and dreams of millions of Americans," McCain said in a nationally broadcast speech in Kenner, La. "And she deserves a lot more appreciation than she sometime received."
Asked about this statement in an interview last week with Newsweek's Holly Bailey and Jon Meacham, McCain interjected, "I did not [say that] — that was in prepared remarks, and I did not [say it] — I'm not in the business of commenting on the press and their coverage or not coverage."

Ana Marie Cox of Swampland observes that it's hard to make any kind of sense about McCain's various statements about illegal wiretapping and Bush:
I can't make sense of what he's actually believes among all of these statements. For every straightforward declaration, there's a weirdly squishy backstep. I've sent this post to someone at the campaign, will let you know their response.
I'd say it was natural for McCain to contradict himself on a variety of issues because he has the impossible task of pleasing both the GOP base, as represented by people like Limbaugh and Hannity, and mainstream Americans.
