McCAIN: IRAQ IS DIFFERENT THAN VIETNAM

(h/t Attaturk)

The Best and the Brightest was an expose of the Vietnam tragedy by David Halberstam. Digby found at CunningRealist that McCain wrote an introduction for one of the editions.

It was a shameful thing to ask men to suffer and die, to persevere through god-awful afflictions and heartache, to endure the dehumanizing experiences that are unavoidable in combat, for a cause that the country wouldn’t support over time and that our leaders so wrongly believed could be achieved at a smaller cost than our enemy was prepared to make us pay. No other national endeavor requires as much unshakable resolve as war. If the nation and the government lack that resolve, it is criminal to expect men in the field to carry it alone.

CBS News Poll. May 30-June 3, 2008. N=1,038 adults nationwide. MoE ± 4.

"From what you know about the U.S. involvement in Iraq, how much longer would you be willing to have large numbers of U.S. troops remain in Iraq: less than a year, one to two years, two to five years, five to ten years, or as long as it takes?"

McConnell and the Washington Post-
LIARS QUOTING LIARS.

Even as Iran is helping thwart the attempted US status of forces attempted agreement with Iraq and showing who really won the war, moronic war whoring liars like Clear Channel's Mike McConnell ("The Weekend" host) are bragging that the war is "largely" won and that Bush didn't lie about the WMDs and pre-war threat from Iraq to boot.

Today McConnell devoted a hour to promoting Fred Hiatt's deceptive editorial in WAPO yesterday, dissected and trashed above by Jeremy Hammond.

It's pretty had to pass yourself off as an Iraq War expert commentator when you don't understand Iran has won the war, evidenced by its ability to thwart any US troops status of forces agreement unfavorable to the mullahs who have in turn been friendly with
almost all Shia parties in Iraq for years.

Then again, what's 5000 lives lost (including mercenary contractors) and 50,000 American maimed for life when you make money off the war, McConnell by taking an early trip to promote it and a false patriotism with a host of other CC war whores, who of course lied about an early victory and painted a completely dishonest rosy picture while there.

As Darryl Parks, Program Director of the year says "never let the facts get in the way" (of promoting a no-win war for big oil and Israel) which threw Iraq into the Iranian axis-of-evil orbit, helped send gas to four bucks a gallon and at least (thankfully as karma would have it) backfired on Israel's intended increased security.
