QUESTIONS ABOUT McCAIN'S XMAS POW STORY

McCain tells an all-too-sweet story about a Vietnamese guard coming up to him on Xmas day and surreptitiously making a sign of the Cross in the dirt. The odd part is that McCain never seems to have mentioned this, not in his own book and not in a book about Xmas in captivity by Robert Timberg. (Via Hilzoy)

Andrew Sullivan asks a good question:
Is it possible that McCain's memory has faded with time and that he has simply fused his own memories with other stories - as Clinton did with Bosnia sniper fire and as Kerry did in remembering another Christmas he could not have actually witnessed where he said he did?
