Pakistan premier backs army chief's US rebuke
Sep 11 05:00 AM US/Eastern
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan's premier has backed the army chief's criticism of the U.S. following a deadly American-led ground assault in Pakistani territory.
The rebuke Thursday underscored the strained relations between the two countries seven years after the Sept. 11 attacks forged their anti-terror alliance.
Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said Wednesday that Pakistan would defend its territory, and warned that unilateral attacks could undermine efforts to end extremism.
Premier Yousaf Raza Gilani in comments reported by state media and confirmed by his office says Kayani's words reflected government opinion and policy.
