ANOTHER LESSON FOR THE FMF FOLKS

We've heard and read the wingnuts make extravagant claims for the wonders of the Free Market and previously I noted that Big Pharma doesn't do the fundamental research needed to keep America and advanced country. In The Wrecking Crew (p.136), Thomas Franks notes that Federal employees have won Nobel prizes in medicine but that obvious success has been setback by the conservatives' wish for a smaller government.

Frank's man source was this article1 and here is the relevant section:

As a consequence, the executive branch contains numerous "centers of excellence,"especially in scientific and technical fields. For example, from 1968 through 1985, seven federal employees won Nobel prizes in medicine and 60 federal employees are members of the National Academy of Sciences.
