MAYBE WE CAN GET SOMEONE TO CHALLENGE SEN. DODD

I've had the impression Dodd (D-CONN.) is just another in a long line of corporatist Democrats, something like Clinton but not as slick. Dodd's incredibly lame attempt to avoid blame for the AIG bonuses reflect very poorly on Democrats and I really think we need someone to mount a primary challenge.

Worse than Dodd affair, Obama seems to be willing to stick with Geithner and Summers despite mounting evidence that they are from the culture that brought us this problem. We know that AIG is still on the hook for $1.6 TRILLION so what Treasury has done so far is just a small fraction of what it might have to do. (h/t Atrios) Further, the regular insurance part of AIG may be just another house of cards waiting to collapse, so we may have just thrown away all those billions because AIG will never be able to repay. From Newsweek:
Most of this as-yet-undiscovered problem, Gober says, lies in the area of reinsurance, whereby one insurance company insures the liabilities of another so that the latter doesn't have to carry all the risk on its books. Most major insurance companies use outside firms to reinsure, but the vast majority of AIG's reinsurance contracts are negotiated internally among its affiliates, Gober says, and these internal balance sheets don't add up.
