THE GOP STARTED THE SOUTHERN STRATEGY IN 1964

Goldwater won only 6 states, 5 in the Deep South: South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Goldwater himself was not for segregation, he just honestly felt that the Federal government was infringing on States' Rights.
