I noted some time ago that the American commander in Afghanistan estimated that 400,000 troops would be needed to secure the country. Now, I learn from the DNI that the newest estimate is over 800,000. (h/t Dave Schuler at Outside the Beltway) The American Federation of Scientists through a FOIA request obtained a declassified version of the DNI's answers to questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee.
