IDEOLOGICAL SELF-IDENTIFICATION

Gallup recently found that a slight plurality of Americans describe themselves as conservative in 2009 and gasbags like Hannity and Limbaugh are chirping about this result. Unfortunately for them, Gallup has had almost the same finding (usually slightly more identify as moderate than conservative) every year from 1992 to the present. During that period, a Democratic President (Clinton) was elected and re-elected, Democrats gained seats in Congress in 2006 and 2008 and a Democratic President was elected in 2008.
