Let's recall that Glenn Beck is doing us all a great favor by uncovering dastardly progressive disinformation by pointing little knows facts such as Alaska was purchased in the 1950s. He also seems to have some other historical breakthroughs, such as the Great Depression really occurred in 1948.
First, here's the chart Beck is referring to (click on for larger image):
The earliest year in this chart is 1948 but Beck doesn't seem to grasp that because he refers to the Great Depression1:
BECK:...This next chart comes from Henry Blodget's "Business Insider." It shows unemployment as a percentage relative to the peak unemployment month. OK? This is -- this is opposed to number of jobs lost -- basically what it is, it compares apples to apples because there were more people that were working, you know, 50 years ago -- more people working now than there were 50 years ago because we have grown in population, et cetera, et cetera.
All right. First number is, let's show the recession percentage-wise in 1948. There it is. The percent of job losses in this recession, got it? Here's the recession in 1974. Remember now bad how bad that felt?
Now, you can put Great Depression in context, can't you? This was bad. Imagine how this felt.
Now, here's the recession in 1980. Here's the recession in 1981. That's bad.
Now, here's the recession that began in 2007. Here we are. We haven't -- we haven't hit bottom -- there's no -- there's no up tick here. Notice how even the Great Depression, up tick, down, up tick, then it's up. Look how long this has been going on and we're still trending down.
