The current sales tax in Tucson is 8.1% and a proposed state-wide sales tax1 would increase that to 9.1%. The City Manager just proposed raising the tax another half cent2, so if the state & local increases are approved, we would be paying 9.6%. I voted to increase the state sales tax because I know the GOP troglodytes in the legislature would never agree to an income tax increase but I can't see paying almost 10% for what amounts to a backwater.
