First, the Germans didn't have a long history of respect for individual rights.
Second, the German nation had to pay war reparations which were a severe burden to a democratic system.
Third, the German Army was deeply involved in right-wing politics and gave material support to right-wing militias.

BECK & WEIMAR
Glenn Back has told his audience that we are facing a situation just as severe as the one the Weimar Republic faced after World War I so I decided to read some of the history of that time. The first book I chose is The Rise and Fall of Weimar Democracy by Hans Mommsen. I've only read the first 140 pages or so but I can already see very clear differences between the German situation and our own.
