Giffords, who has held the office since 2006 and was a state legislator and small-business owner before that, has held the financial advantage since before she knew who her opponent would be. She brought in $700,000 in the third quarter of the year to add to the $2.2 million she'd raised through the first half of the year.

Kelly reached the $1 million mark, adding $535,000 raised in the third quarter to the $488,000 he'd raised through the first half of the year.
