His statement about compromise being an essential component of national politics is well-taken but he doesn't seem to be aware of the fact the those of us on "the professional Left"
and others view him as making too many pre-emptive compromises. What he needs to do from now on is make clear to us where his starting position is and what he's done to accommodate the non-krazy GOP demands.

That the Obama administration has turned out to be fairly good at the inside Washington game of negotiations and legislative compromise and quite bad at communicating to the public and keeping their base excited is not what most would have predicted during the 2008 campaign. But it's true.
