DISAPPOINTING

After Jerry Falwell died, I thought that the Religious Right would be in a (hopefully) long period of decline but I was wrong.   I guess the first hint of this was the success Newt Gingrich had giving speeches on the evangelical circuit, the second would be Huckabee's relatively strong showing in the 2008 GOP primaries. Add to this the idiotic religiosity of Sarah Palin, I guess the Religious Right never did decline, it just went into hibernation for a bit.

What makes this painfully clear is the fact that Rick Santorum is still a viable political figure for conservatives, despite the fact that he considers JFK to be a radical for insisting on a strict separation of Church and State.   Sen. Jim Demint is perhaps the scariest because he opposes the modern welfare state because it makes it less likely that people will turn to Jeebus.
