SOMETHING ELSE I DIDN'T KNOW

The BBC World Service has an ongoing series called "Heart and Soul" that deal with religious issues.  A recent episode looked into the controversy among Jews over the use of Hebrew as an everyday language:
An Orthodox Jew who is opposed to the secular use of Hebrew said that in his opinion, Israel was not a religiously sanctioned state because that can only be done by the coming of the Messiah.

Otto Weininger claimed that for a project like Israel to be successful, Jews would have to abandon Judaism in favor of a "pre-Jewish" pagan Hebrew tribal nationalism. There are Israeli groups advocating such overtly, but some might also claim this has been ongoing in effect if not name for some time.
