I'M A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT THIS

Vaughan Bell at Mind Hacks reports that some internet companies are using the vast amount of data they collect on users to help them make more money.  This involves "nudging" them to make the choices the companies find more profitable.  In what seems to be a parallel move, IBM has announced a new set of tools to deal with truly massive amounts of data ("Big Data") for large enterprises.

I suspect any findings will remain proprietary and thus not be available to the general public, thus depriving us of the knowledge needed to make informed decisions.
