I know the Fundies, the neo-cons and the Zionists place an enormous value on America's subservient relationship to Israel but I never made the connection between that and American exceptionalism until Walter Russell Mead pointed it out:
The idea of Jewish and Israeli exceptionalism is profoundly tied to the idea of American exceptionalism. The belief that God favors and protects Israel is connected to the idea that God favors and protects America.I don't think Mead is correct but like Mead, I have no data to support my claim.
Being pro-Israel matters in American mass politics because the public mind believes at a deep level that to be pro-Israel is to be pro-America and pro-faith.
...the pervasive sense in American politics that Israel is an American value.

To the extent it's true it's a result of Jewish/Zionist media/ academic indoctrination, and decadence in apocalyptic Christianity.
Decadence because the traditional conservative Christian interpretation -both Catholic and Protestant--of the Abrahamic Covenant's land promise was that it was conditional on obedience to God, not unconditional as the Christian Zionist modernists say.
Obedience after the Christian era began meant conversion to Christianity.
here is a typical intepretation.
