OK, A LITTLE EVIDENCE FOR THE 40% CLAIM

I've noted several times before that the oft-repeated conservative claim that 40% of Americans are conservative doesn't have much independent support.  Today for the first time, a new Pew Poll gives some support FOR that percentage:

35% of Americans think the Democrats are the more extreme party, a number that's consilient with the Gallup poll that found 40% of Americans self-identify as conservative. OTOH, 50% think the Republicans are more extreme!!!
