Today Glenda Beck had Sen. Mike Lee (R-UTAH), one of the most reactionary Senators, on his show and one of the topics was a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. Lee said that a CNN poll had found that 75% of Americans would support it and I found that a little hard to believe but he was telling the truth. A
CNN/ORC poll conducted 7/18-20/2011 did get that result:
25. Would you favor or oppose a constitutional amendment to require a balanced federal budget?
Favor 74%
Oppose 24%
No opinion 1%
However,
a FAUX News poll a month earlier found that it's the details that count:
"Would you favor or oppose a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution if it meant major spending cuts to entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security?" |

| | Favor | Oppose | Unsure | | |
| | % | % | % | | |
| 6/26-28/11 | 31 | 63 | 6 | | |

"Would you favor or oppose a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution if it meant major tax increases for every American?" |
|
| | Favor | Oppose | Unsure | | |
| | % | % | % | | |
| 6/26-28/11 | 34 | 62 | 4 | | |
