One month Trump was on top with the birthers, then Bachmann had about a month as the favorite, then it was Perry's turn for about 15 minutes - who's next?

Not defending the tea party, but the tea party vital core never did like or trust Trump, they considered Bachmann a Patriot Act supporting poseur, and if they were aware of Perry's moderate-liberal immigration policies, didn't like him either.
Of course that begs the question of who composes the tea party vital core and I admit this is no longer worth taking the time to dissect.

I agree with what I've heard or read a few TP's state. I haven't read that any of them opposed the Patriot Act.
The Ron Paul faction would be against it.
