OVERDUE CORRECTION
I have used this quote from Exodus to argue that the Bible does not consider abortion murder but biblical scholar Richard Elliot Friedman pointed out in his new book that the correct translation of that passage is still in doubt.

If you get a chance and are interested, check out the issue as related to the position of Aquinas, and what that might imply on the subject.
He believed the "human" nature of the fetus did not form until a certain period with a female another period with a male. Now, whether he extrapolated this into what he believed was a proper punishment for the killing of a "pre-human" fetus, I am not sure. It is plausible he considered early abortion a serious sin, but not murder.
I do recall that. I think it may have been in the original Roe v. Wade decision.
