Austerity budgets are generally a huge FAIL, so I'm glad Newt is in favor of going in another direction:

“First of all, David, I don’t think you’ll ever find me talking about an age of austerity. I don’t think that’s the right solution,” Gingrich said. “I am a pro-growth Republican. I’m a pro-growth conservative. I think the answer is to grow the economy, not to punish the American people with austerity.”

A rank opportunist, but aren't they all, including O. I wouldn't believe him if he suddenly came out for tarriffs and a national industrial policy. I would believe Buddy Roemer on that, because he's been saying it for a few years anyway.
