I'm still reading Brant's one volume biography of James Madison and although a secondary figure in the work, John Randolf (1773-1833) seems to have been just like modern talk radio conservatives. This is more than a little surprising since two pre-Buckley conservatives, Russell Kirk and Richard Weaver, thought very highly of Randolf.
