I'VE AGREED WITH JOHN DERBYSHIRE IN THE PAST

He attacked the Intelligent Design barbarians and I thought he should get some credit for that.  He also wrote a nice smack-down of the rightwing talk radio gasbags, including Mark Levin, whom Derbyshire called "juvenile."

Derbyshire is now under attack for writing advice to whites about how they should treat blacks.  Here are some of his remarks which I found unobjectionable:

(9) A small cohort of blacks—in my experience, around five percent—is ferociously hostile to whites and will go to great lengths to inconvenience or harm us. A much larger cohort of blacks—around half—will go along passively if the five percent take leadership in some event. They will do this out of racial solidarity, the natural willingness of most human beings to be led, and a vague feeling that whites have it coming.

This one needs some qualification:

(10d) Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks.

I think this would apply to rap/hip-hop concerts.

This one below is rarely justified but I do have a supporting anecdote:

(10h) Do not act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, e.g., on the highway.

One of the streets that leads to the University of Rochester (NY) is bounded by a river park and a cemetary, so there is almost no one living on the street.  (I can't recall the year, but I think it was in the 1990s) For a month or so in this area, some blacks would feign being in distress to get motorists to stop and then the motorists would be robbed.
